A short explanation of how we decided what to charge — and why the same platform costs a small studio one figure and a large school another.
Ocio is a single, feature-rich platform, and we believe nearly every capability in it is genuinely useful to a serious business. We could charge one flat price to everyone, and we think it would still be affordable and still be worth it.
But that isn't how businesses arrive. Some are brand new, run by one person who teaches every class themselves. Some are growing, with a roster of instructors and a term of shows to organise. Some have been established for twenty years. Charging all three the same price would mean pricing the first one out to be fair to the third.
We looked hard for the dimensions that track how much a business genuinely uses the platform, and settled on two: how many teachers you have, and how much you run each month — courses, workshops and events.
And the number of locations is deliberately not one of them. Every package includes more locations than a business of its size typically runs — 2, 4 and 10 — because a school teaching in three rented halls is not a larger business than one with a single studio of its own. We would rather be generous there than tax the schools working hardest to grow.
The packages don't ration the features. They reflect the size of the operation the platform is running.
There is a set of things every business in this category needs on day one: a website customers can book on, a calendar, registration, payments, receipts, notifications. Withholding any of those from a smaller customer would make the product not work, rather than make it cheaper. So they are in every package, at every price.
Value-added features are different. Not every school wants a Telegram assistant, rents out its rooms, or records payments taken outside the platform. Those are priced separately, because that is fairer than charging everyone for what some will use.
When we process a payment for you we take 1%, with a minimum of 30 centimes, on top of what your payment provider charges. We show both numbers separately and never blend them, because you should be able to see exactly who took what.
We take nothing on money we didn't process. If a student pays you in cash, that is between the two of you.
We won't advertise a price and then reveal that the useful half is an extra. And we won't sell you a feature that isn't built yet — where something is still in development, we say so on the price list rather than in a footnote you find later.
